What we heard
In January the room was a real mix. Some had a formal AI policy, some had an email asking staff not to use outside tools and some had nothing yet. Confidence followed control, not paperwork. The people who felt comfortable had a managed Copilot environment they could see into. Those relying on an email knew they were working blind. Even the most mature setup in the room couldn’t clearly see how AI was being used day to day.
The advice that came up again and again: run an AI amnesty to get use into the open, take one safe first step and name an owner rather than forming a committee.
